Sonja Johnson

We are very proud to welcome Sonja Johnson, Olympic Silver Medallist in Equestrian 3 Day Eventing, as our first ambassador for The Good Life Farm.

Sonja has been supporting the farm’s work since 2009 when Tennille Porter, daughter of our founder Lesley, spent a year living on Sonja’s family farm - Parkiarrup - in Albany, Western Australia, as a working pupil.

Sonja opened her house and home as well as her heart to Tennille, and enabled her to grow not only as a rider but also as a person.

Since then Sonja has conducted a number of eventing programs in Victoria, which Tennille has organised. All of the proceeds have been donated to the Good Life Farm.

Sonja has a passion and open heart for children and youth.

She is not only a riding coach but a mentor for life to many young people, frequently opening her arms and her home to young people in need.

Sonja’s honours

Sonja is best known as an Australian equestrian rider who won silver at the 2008 Beijing Olympics riding Ringwould Jaguar.

Sonja’s major equestrian achievements include:

  • 2014 selected for World Equestrian Games team
  • 2014 ranked 6th equestrian event rider in the world and highest ranked female
  • 2012 short listed for London Olympics
  • 2008 won team silver at the Beijing Olympics on Ringwould Jaguar
  • 2008 won Sydney Three Day Event
  • 2007 won the NZ national championships on Ringwould Jaguar
  • 2006 won team bronze for Australia at the World Equestrian Games in Aachen, Germany
  • 2006 won CIC*** at the Melbourne 3 Day Event on Ringwould Jaguar
  • 2004 won CIC-W at the Melbourne 3 Day Event on Ringwould Jaguar
  • 2003 named Australian Event Rider of the Year
  • 1996 named Australian Event Rider of the Year
  • 1996 was the non-travelling reserve rider for the Olympic Games
  • 1995 competed at the Trans Tasman event in Taupo, New Zealand
